The highlight of our most recent OBX trip is our visit to Alligator National Wildlife Refuge. Because BEARS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I was determined to see a bear on this trip and that determination paid off because we saw not one, not two, but THREE black bears.
The refuge is expansive so be sure to stop at the visitor center on Roanoke Island before you cross the bridge to pick up a map, or save a picture of it on your phone before you go so you don’t get lost.
If you’re looking for more of a beginner level refuge experience head straight for the Sandy Ridge Wildlife Trail by turning left on Buffalo City Rd. from Rt. 64.
