The Corona Challenge

March 14, 2020 By Becca Leave a Comment

As of yesterday, all schools in the state of Delaware are closed for two weeks. This does NOT mean you have to be stuck in the house. In fact, we can all view this as an opportunity to do some alternative education and what better way to do that than to get the kids and yourself outside and exploring?? From a hike in the woods to a walk on the beach and everything in between, we are fortunate to have SO many places to go in Delmarva. I am challenging you to choose one (or more) place(s) from The Buckit List that you haven’t been to before and check them out over the next two weeks. I have modified the list here to exclude indoor adventures, zoos and playgrounds as we are to be practicing social distancing during this time:

I left some parks that also have trails, but removed the ones that are just playgrounds.
If you choose to accept the challenge, I want you to write #challengeaccepted on a piece of paper and take a photo of yourself or your kids while on your adventure and then share it to The Buckit Blog’s facebook page. There will be a dedicated post for this. Once you do that, you will be entered to win an awesome prize. Winner to be selected randomly from the entries and will be announced on March 27th!
While you are out exploring, try incorporating this awesome nature scavenger hunt. My oldest needs more motivation to really enjoy our hikes and this always does the trick for him!
AND/OR
Take a bag and some gloves with you and pick up trash. Surprisingly, my boys LOVE doing this. It turns in to its own sort of scavenger hunt and it wouldn’t be brotherly fun without a little healthy competition for the biggest or weirdest item found. I feel like even with the need for social distancing, this is fine to do at your local park. Just limit playground interaction with other families and make sure they wash and sanitize hands thoroughly.

Fairmount Park- Centennial Arboretum

May 29, 2021 By Becca Leave a Comment

What kind of mental picture do you get when you think of Philadelphia? Big cities are such a juxtaposition between beauty and filth in my personal opinion. Everywhere you look there are piles of trash, graffiti, and dilapidated buildings. Philly has more than its' fair share of those things BUT it … [Read More...]
