Cape Hatteras Lighthouse

July 25, 2017 By Becca Leave a Comment

THE most iconic Outer Banks landmark is none other than the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse. Our visit lasted all of 10 minutes because O is too small to climb (must be 42″) and the boys rushed through the museum. In their defense, I don’t like museums much either.  Climbing the lighthouse IS on my lifelong bucket list though, so we will have to do it next year! Not only is the lighthouse beautiful, but it’s part of engineering history due to its 1999 relocation. Here are three more fun facts:

  1. The Cape Hatteras Lighthouse is the tallest lighthouse in North America
  2. It is made out of approximately 1,250,000 bricks
  3. There are 257 steps to the top

There are bathrooms and gift shop on site as well. Keep in mind the lighthouse is only open for climbing from Easter-ish to Thanksgiving-ish.
