I took a little break from blogging for the busy holiday season, but now that it is 2016 we our back in adventure mode! If you remember wayyyyy back to one of my earliest posts, I mentioned THE LIST. One of the reasons for this blog is to inspire you all to get out and see all this area has to offer and that is one of my goals for the new year as well. I created a list for myself of 20-30 places that I had never been to on the Delmarva peninsula and began checking them off one by one in 2015. We still have a lot of adventuring to do, and my list continues to grow as I hear of cool new spots to see. That being said, I would LOVE to hear what your absolute favorite gem of a spot is in the area so we can add it to the list!
I would encourage each and every one of you to make a list of your own this year and I would love to get you started! Here are some of the places we checked out in 2015. Some were old favorites, some were brand new to us:
1. Big Oak Park
2. Bombay Hook National Wildlife Refuge
3. Delaware Museum of Natural History (They have a nature trail!)
4. Silver Lake Park
5. Prime Hook National Wildlife Refuge
6. Browns Branch Park
7. 3 Palms Zoo
8. Lums Pond State Park
9. Trap Pond State Park
10. White Clay Creek State Park
11. Brecknock Park
12. St. Jones Reserve
Now you have a place to visit at least once a month, that goal is doable right??
Since we were traveling for the holidays with two small children, we always have to have a game plan before hitting the road. Generally for a 5-6 hour trip we need to have at least one or two long stops along way for everyone to stretch their legs and a park is usually the first choice. It just so happens that it was unseasonably warm on Christmas day when we were on the road so when it was time for a break we Googled to find the closest park and found a place in Frederick, MD called Ballenger Creek Park. If you are ever in the area, it is definitely worth a stop. Multiple playgrounds, picnic pavillions and a nature trail to boot.
